Egg Allergy Diagnosis Research
Hen’s egg is one of the most frequently used food ingredients in different cuisines, yet it is also among the nine major food allergens worldwide.
CUHK Paediatrics is conducting a study to (i) help children with suspected egg allergy ascertain whether they have true egg allergy, and (ii) investigate the diagnostic accuracy of two novel methods, namely basophil activation test (BAT) and component-resolved diagnosis (CRD), for childhood egg allergy.
Recruitment criteria: Children aged 1 to 17 years with a history of allergic reactions (e.g. hives, swollen lips or face, vomiting, breathing difficulty, anaphylactic shock) within two hours after touching/ eating of foods containing hen’s egg are eligible.
